What happens if I miss a class? Can I make it up?
You are not penalized for missing classroom hours. However, you need to make up any classes that you missed in order to receive a certificate of completion. Make-up classes can be scheduled with the main office.
Where can I make up a class?
Any All-Star Driver Office. If you take a class at a high school, you can make up a class at our location or at a later session at the school. Students have one year to make up the class.
Do I have to make up the exact same class that I missed?
Yes.
What are the minimum requirements to get a license?
The minimum requirement to get a license is an 8 hour safety course, however it is our opinion that its does not fully equip you for your license exam or a safe future on the road.
Do parents need to attend a class?
If you are under 18 and received your permit after August 1, 2008 a parent/guardian must attend a 2 hour class with the student. Students and parents will be notified of dates and times of parent classes.
Do I have to pay the full tuition to start the full driver's education program?
You can start the program with a deposit of $225. The remainder is due prior to scheduling road lessons.
Why do I have to purchase a textbook if another family member already has one?
Textbook purchase is mandatory because it is a workbook in which both you and the instructor will write to keep track of your classroom progress.
Can I switch a road lesson with another student?
Yes, however, both students need to contact the school 24 hours prior to the driving lesson.
Is there someone else in the car beside the instructor while I am driving?
No. While training new instructors, we may ask your permission to have an instructor observe, but the lessons are all one on one.
Do you do pick-ups at home?
Pick-ups and drop-offs are scheduled only from high schools and All-Star Driver branches. In emergencies or with sufficient notice we will try to accommodate your needs.
Do I need any experience before doing my driving hours with your instructors?
We do recommend that you spend your time behind the wheel with our instructors reinforcing skills that you have learned at home; however, it is not necessary.
How many hours of driving are required by the state before I can get my license?
If you are under the age of 18 you need to complete 40 hours behind the wheel. If you do 8 hours behind the wheel with us, you would complete the other 32 hours at home with a parent or guardian.
Do you offer more than 8 hours of driving?
Yes. We offer programs with 8, 10, or 20 hours of driving. Or you can purchase a package and add additional driving hours as needed.
How long does it take for me to complete my program?
If attended regularly, the classroom portion takes 8 weeks to complete. Behind the wheel driving can be done during the 8 weeks or after you have completed the classroom portion.
How long do I have to complete classes?
Students have one year from the time they register to complete classroom and behind the wheel driving.
Do I have to be 16 to start classroom?
Yes. Students may enroll before their 16th birthday but they cannot start classes until they turn 16.
How long do I have to hold my permit before I can get my license?
For students who are taking the 30/8 course, you only have to hold the permit for 120 days. Students who complete only classroom lessons must have your permit for 180 days before you can test for your license.
Do I need insurance to drive with my learner’s permit?
No, students are covered under the school/parent’s insurance.
What is the benefit of doing a full driver's education program versus an 8 hour safe driving course?
Completing a full driver's education program will prepare you for a safe future on the road. Students that take this course can test for their license in 4 months (6 months for those who do not take it). Also many insurance companies recognize this program for student discounts.
Am I taught by an instructor or a video?
All of our classes are taught by a licensed instructor with supplementary materials including videos, photos, and activities.
Where can I find a DMV application for the license test?
All of our instructors have applications on hand. Ask and one will be provided.
